배경: 가브리엘/까미유 결혼이 깨졌다. 까미유가 가브리엘은 에밀리를 사랑한다고 식장에서 울며 빠져나갔고, 그 상황에서 가장 충격을 받은 사람은 바로 에밀리의 현 남자 친구 엘피......
 
엘피(elfie) :
"I thought I could get past it
Believe me, I wanted to.
I don't think I can.
I am always going to be waiting for the other shoe to drop."
 
이 일을 이겨낼 수 있을 것 같았어요.
진심으로 그러고 싶었죠.
근데 그러지 못할 것 같아요. 
똑같은 일이 생길까 봐
항상 쫓기는 마음일 거예요. 
 
 
 

To wait for the other shoe to drop

To wait for an expected and inevitable event to occur. The event is most often negative. 

Await a seemingly inevitable event, as in Now that she has a good enough job to leave her husband, we're just waiting for the other shoe to drop. This expression alludes to a person /awakened by a neighbor who loudly dropped one shoe on the floor and is waiting for the second shoe to be dropped. [ Early 1900s]
 

이 표현은 이웃이 신발을 한 짝 떨어 뜨리는 시끄러운 소리에 /잠에서 깬 한 사람이 또 다른 한 짝이 마저 떨어지길 기대한다는 것으로/ 한 번 일어난 부정적인 사건이/ 다음에 또 발생할 것이라고 기대하는 의미를 내포하고 있다.
